‘Almost impossible’ for Man United attacking target to leave club – Would need €70m+ bid

Ever since Erik ten Hag was announced as the successor to interim manager Ralf Rangnick at Manchester United, the Old Trafford side have been linked with Ajax players.

It makes sense, at least on paper, that the Dutchman could want to bring a couple of his favourites with him to the Premier League, but it appears the Eredivisie side aren’t interested in parting ways with their stars.

Players such as Jurrien Timber, Antony and Lisandro Martinez have all been touted as potential Manchester United targets at some point, with the last two featuring more prominently in the rumour mill of late.

However, according to Dutch journalist Mike Werweij, speaking to De Telegraaf and relayed by Soccernews, it would take a lot, and we mean a *lot*, of money to convince Ajax.

He said: “In terms of outgoing transfers, Ajax only want to sell Sébastien Haller and Edson Alvarez with a good offer. The former leaves for Borussia Dortmund, while Ajax want about €30m for Alvarez.”

As for the aforementioned trio: “The price tags around their necks are such that it’s almost impossible for them to leave. Ajax also want to do everything they can to prevent them from leaving. I think that for Antony, you have to reach €70-80m by now, and the other two €50m or €60m.”

This means that, should Manchester United want to buy all three, they would have to fork out a minimum €170m, which we all know they won’t do.

Their current priority is to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona, and there is then a likely need to sign a striker, which none of the trio are naturals in.
